"Excellent all round, especially in December for the Christmas Market"
The Westin Bellevue is ideally located just an easy five minute walk across the bridge to Dresden city centre. Our room was spotlessly clean and furnished to a high standard - the duck down duvets were superb! Room 263 was at the back of the hotel, so very quiet, and gave us wonderful views across the river back towards the city, especially at night. Rooms at the front would face a fairly busy road. All the staff we spoke to where friendly and helpful. Breakfast was extensive and very varied, a huge range of hot and cold items from assorted fresh rolls, to sliced meats, to cheese, all manner of cereals, fruit, yoghuts, etc. etc. The only disapointment was the awful hot chocolate we had in the bar late one night - the worst I've ever had, not at all the usual wonderful German hot chocolate you are given. We did not eat in the restaurant although the setting looked very pleasant.
Dresden Christmas market is a MUST!! Smaller than Frankfurt or Cologne but full of atmosphere and character and with loads to buy!. Although buzzing with people it never felt over crowded and you could eat and drink easily without being squashed. Although we were sensible with our bags etc it felt a very safe city to be in. We sampled virtually all the food on offer and everything was piping hot, full of taste and delicious! The gluvein was irresistable! Everything was excellent value for money. The Medieval Market was a delightful bonus and a treat to see. It was all very friendly and just a delight to be in. I would highly recommend both the hotel and Christmas Market to everyone.

"Excellent Hotel"
I echo the comments of the previous reviewers. We were there in the middle of Feb 2006 for three nights (a Fri, Sat Sun) and have staid there in the past.
I would expect lots of German bus tour groups there, especially on the weekends, with the re-dedication of the Frauen Kirche in 2006.
The best rooms are the "Deluxe" rooms facing the Elbe. It was cheaper to reserve the room (using the Westin/Starwood website) without breakfast included. The rate was 173 Euro/night. Breakfast is normally 19 Euro/person but only 14 if you have the front desk book breakfast for each day you want it. The rate including breakfast was 213 Euro/night so we saved 12 Euro/day. The breakfast buffet is very elborate there.
There were large bus tour groups when we were there so you may want to go to breakfast at 0630 when they first open or after 0900 to avoid the crowds on weekends.
It is only a 5 Euro (depending on traffic) cab ride from the Dresden Neustadt train station. All the long distance trains stop there. You can also take the number 6 or 9 street car line to/from the Neustadt station, there is a street car stop in front of the hotel.

Wonderful Hotel
My sister and I stayed at the Westin Bellevue late June of 2005. The staff were pleasant and helpful, the room fine, the buffet breakfast terrific. The bar off the lobby was a great place to relax after a day of sightseeing in beautiful Dresden. The location was wonderful. Public transportation pratically at your door... but you could walk to Old Town in minutes. Staying at the Westin Bellevue made our stay in Dresden delightful. |
