"An Excellent Hotel"
We had a difficult start being allocated Room 207 which is extremely small, has no bath (only a shower) and had ineffective air-conditioning! It has to be doubtful whether the room is big enough to qualify as a room in a 5 star hotel. But we asked for a move - which was readily granted - and our new room was superb. It was well equipped and large. There was a room safe and a mini-bar with sensible prices - which is commendable these days.
Other than this initial problem the hotel was superb. The overall decor of the public area is quite magnificent and the hotel staff were outstanding in their helpfulness and politeness. The hotel is vey well situated to the main tourist parts of Dresden.
We booked a "summer package" - B&B, one evening meal, a boat trip on the River Elbe and a welcoming cocktail. Any of these elements you can purchase individually, of course, but the overall package was good value for money. The evening meal was excellent but beware that the menu was restrictive with only one choice for each course - for that reason I would not recommend the package.
To briefly summarise, this hotel was well up to 5 star standard and I would recommend it. Dresden is a magnificent city well worth visiting. |

"Excellent"
A perfect place to stay in Dresden. Our room (on the 3rd floor) was lovely - bedroom had all the usual amenities, a 6ft bed (ie two 3ft beds pushed together), hairdrier, minibar, etc, plus free bottles of water, an espresso machine and kettle for tea-making. It had a good size bathroom with jacuzzi bath (the bubble facility came on automatically when the water reached a sufficient depth).
The breakfast buffet is very good, but quite expensive. There are nearby cafe/ restaurants as an alternative, just behind the hotel.
There is a lovely swimming pool in the basement - not large, but the water is warm, and each time I used it, I had the pool to myself.
The Old Town, Altstadt, is only a few minutes walk, and there is a tram and bus stop outside the hotel so you can easily travel further afield - to Pilnitz Castle, the train station etc. Don't bother with the tourist hop-on hop-off buses - they run less frequently than the local buses and trams, and their bus-stops are difficult to find, away from the regular bus/tram stops. Our "best buy" was a Family Ticket for 5.50 euros, which gave us unlimited travel (for the 2 of us) on the buses and trams all day. Also recommend a boat trip on the Elbe River, either to Blue Wonder Bridge or Pilnitz Castle.

"Good location, very comfortable bed-room, good service"
I booked the hotel online as a last-minute offer from a German travel-agency.
The bed-room was bigger than photos suggest. It was spacious, clean and very good maintained. The atmosphere was not stylish but friendly, no designer chic. The bathroom was not only impressive (marble) but very convenient, too. WC was separate, but that did not disturb me.
The curtains could not be closed completely, so that later in the morning the sun-light may be coming through. As I rise early that was no problem. I informed the hotel staff and they told me that they would fix it. I do not know if they did, because I left the hotel the next day.
Breakfast was of good quality and varied. Nothing to complain about.
I did not try the restaurant. The menue looked promising because of the local food offered. Prices were reasonable, they offered a reduction of 25 % so a dinner (except wine) would cost about EUR 22,--. I do not know if this discount is standard practice.
All in all: I would book this hotel again.

"Great Dresden hotel"
I was suprised to see any negative reviews for this hotel. We had a wonderful experience there. We booked directly from their web site at a very reasonable price for such a nice hotel. The front desk was extremely helpful. We left very early in the morning, so I can not comment on breakfast. All in all, we would definately go back.

"Great hotel: comfortable and unstuffy"
We stayed in a business class room, with 2 children, and found the hotel very comfortable and unstuffy. The children loved the jacuzzi bath. The inner courtyard with atrium imparts airiness and light to an elegant building. Staff are friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Breakfast is very good. The location is ideal: within two minutes' walk of the Altmarkt, with a tram stop right in front of the hotel, near several restaurants, but without the noise of crowds or construction work associated with the hotels located near the Frauenkirche (we did consider the Hilton but were glad we hadn't booked it when we saw the crowds in the streets around it each day). We would not hesitate to return to this hotel.

"Very pleasant and helpful staff"
This hotel is in an excellent location, being about 5 minutes walk from the Frauenkirche. We arrived by train and it was only about a 15 minute walk from the station. The staff were very helpful and allowed us both to check in early and check out late.
There is a nice pool in the basement and a sauna which is also free.
They gave my husband a book of photos of Dresden when we left.
